I did not see my grandchildren last week. They were both overcome by an illness that kept them at home. They returned to us yesterday. At our house, they belong almost exclusively to their grandmother. They only notice my presence when prompted by her or when they know I have something that they like. The older one loves dark chocolate. As for the younger one, he prefers both salty and sweet biscuits. When the older one came in to see me yesterday, I was in the sitting room. I kissed him and handed him not just one piece of chocolate, but two. You should have seen him! He has his ritual with chocolate. He takes the piece, thanks me, and starts eating it right away. This time, he altered his ritual. He took what he had taken and left for the hall. His behavior surprised me! I followed him. I did not know that his brother, during his illness, had also come to love chocolate. I saw the older one giving a piece to the younger one, and eating the other piece. This is the wealth of life, for a person to grow up understanding that what he has is not his alone, to grow on love, generosity, and making others happy. The secret to a beautiful life is to remain children at home!
