The Widow’s Faith

These days, I am haunted by Jesus’ question: “when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8). I knew that exegetes were divided over the meaning of what the Lord meant in His question. Some of them said that He meant that He would come again after apostasy has become prevalent in the world. As for some others, in interpreting it, they adhered to the position of the question in its context. The question comes at the end of the parable of the unjust judge upon whom a widow persisted in order for him to do her justice, so he did justice to her to get rid of her nagging (Luke 18: 1-7). I am not an exegete. However, I am inclined to believe that the verse assumes both meanings. When something, some fear, makes us forget that God is here for us, we must remember this widow. This is the intercessor of difficult times, the icon of the human being whom Jesus desires to find on earth, today and tomorrow. If this woman ceases to exist, faith would cease to exist, that is, every good thing in the world ceases to exist!
