One of the brethren was entrusted with talking to a few young people in his parish about the sin of lying. He called me asking me to help him find references for his talk. I directed him to a few great ascetic fathers who have left a written legacy, and told him to search for what he wants in the writings of Metropolitan George Khodr. He came back to me about a week later. He told me what happened with him. He said that he read the references I had told him about, and two articles by Metropolitan George, one about the Truth and the other about lying. He noticed that all those he had read prompt their readers to renounce sins as an encouragement to the love of virtue. He told me literally: “they do not confine themselves to talking about the ugliness of sin, but rather open our eyes to the beauty of the virtue that liberates us, and prompts us to serve it in our lifetime”. This is the reasoning of the great ones.
