It is the power of the Word that is ever calling us to obey its Truth. Yesterday, I was reading a book that I had hosted next to me two days ago. I was struck by the Apostle’s word: “His commandments are not burdensome” (1 John 5:3). Suddenly, I was beset by a feeling, a mixture of sorrow and joy! I put away the guest book, and held the New Testament. I wanted to read John's word in its context. “This is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome”. This is the secret of obedience. Without love, no one can keep company with the Word or discover its friendliness. Only Love, Jesus’ Love, enables us to understand that what He says is possible because of the communion of life with Him, because of His embracing us, adherence to us, because of His loving grace. O Lord, keep away from us every sorrow that does not lead us to love You more and more.
