The Mind of God

When Jesus said to Peter: “you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men” (Matthew 16:23), He wanted him to abide by Him in what He is mindful of. How does Man think like God? This is a question whose answer requires that we return quickly to the context of the dialogue that took place between Jesus and His disciple. You know. Jesus was foretelling before the twelve that He will be killed, and will rise on the third day. What happened? Peter reprehended what he had heard. He was so passionate that he rebuked and admonished his Master. “God’s Anointed never dies”! It seemed to Jesus that it was difficult for His disciples to understand now what He had foretold. He rebuked Peter for his disapproval as if he were an enemy. Then, He commanded him to get behind Him. He reminded him that he is His disciple. He prompted him to repent to his first call. Keeping ourselves under the wing of the Teacher, Whose company destroys all enmity in us, this is our way into accepting the mind of God. The life of repentance is the mind of God.
