O Jesus, will you allow me to enter the upper room, home of the water and the Word Which is seeking someone to follow its example. Your Word is open to the entire world. John the Evangelist, Your beloved, who was the only one to write down the story of Your washing the feet of Your disciples on this great day, made us all be there. We are all Your disciples. He did not change what the other Evangelists had done when they recorded for us the story of Your offering Your body and Your blood at the supper, but he saw Your sacrifice in Your outspread brokenness. He told us that the disciple’s feet would not be able to carry him to the ministry if he did not receive, in himself, his Master’s humility, that is, if he did not get broken before all people. The ministry, our ministry, does not belong to You if it does not remind people of You, if they do not see You, Yourself, in it. What is this strength in weakness? You always insist on revealing Yourself as an offered sacrifice, a broken body, in order for people to rise to a new life. You want us to be like You. Grant us to be like You.
