When, on the day Jesus was born, the angels said: “and on earth peace”, they meant Christ as a person, or as He is present in His poor brethren. I will repeat to you what happened on that glorious day. There were “shepherds keeping watch over their flock by night”. The angels appeared, sang, and guided them to Jesus’ birth. The shepherds are poor. Actually, if we omit the account of the Magi’s visit that Matthew the Evangelist had written about, all those who gathered around Jesus at His birth were poor. Mary; Joseph; the shepherds… even Jesus, we see Him, at His birth, “becoming poor for our sakes”. This is the richness of Mankind, that we join Jesus and His poor. This is our undivided peace which reveals to us that love is one, love of Jesus and of people and that we benefit from love. Whenever you need peace, you now know the way. Jesus is our way, Jesus and “the least of His brethren”. Love and you will be at peace.
