A few days ago, brother George Lazkani and his wife, Mrs. Amal, called me from the United States. Lazkani is from Aleppo. Their voices were redolent of the scent of Al-Shahba' city, with its laurels and jasmine. He who knows the people of Aleppo, would not miss that their style of speech is beyond the limits of time and space. We talked about many things, about the Church, at home and abroad, and others. They informed me that they intend to visit their country soon. People are their longings. Those who are committed to the Church do not take everything with them, if they emigrate, but leave behind what draws them to it! Homelands, if we leave them, do not leave us! Brother George had told me in a previous call: “for me, to live, is to live in Syria”. This is my hope that our countries will be able to remain an expanse for peace, freedom and life, for today and tomorrow, for our folks in them and for those whom we spend our life awaiting.
