In the neighborhood I grew up in, the faithful used to ascribe the priest to God. This is the aura of the saints! Even before I took an interest in committing to the Church life, I used to get moved by my mother when she conveyed her joy to us upon the visit of our parish priest to our house. I am not talking about the “Theophany visit”, which, like any other visit, our priest used to carry out without an appointment. He would knock on the door of the house and walk in on those who were inside. He considered all the houses his very own. I am talking about a priest who has spent his whole ministry walking on the roads of our parish, going from one house to another, neither adhering to one particular house, nor ignoring another. If you ask me today about his ministry, I cannot find a word that expresses it better than the word of the Apostle: “And His servants shall serve Him” (Revelation 22:3). This is the secret of the aura, the holy aura, that the priests always keep in mind that they are servants of God dedicated to serve His House, both in terms of prayers and of the faithful!
