Allow Us to Rejoice

This morning, I read a piece of news that Lebanon has a rendezvous with about two million expatriate visitors this coming summer. Is there any of them whose decision is to stay? I know that my daughter will be one of those who will be visiting us, God willing. I am waiting for my son to make a final decision about his children’s visit. The analysis, which I read about the piece of news, is about the expected contribution of the visitors in jump-starting the economy and the business activity in the country. Political or economic analysts do not consider anything else. For example, they do not consider the joy, which is one of Lebanon’s stolen wealth today, my joy as well as yours with the visit of those who have been separated from us for more than one reason. They consider the material profit, and the pitfalls of the visit: electricity and water cuts... I am not objecting. Today, Lebanon is in need of the support of expatriates. Do I hear about the piece of news a comment that resonates in the hearts of the Lebanese people waiting for their visitors: “take everything, and allow us to rejoice”?
