A Symposium for a Hundred Years!

Yesterday, I participated in a symposium called by the Faculty of Religious Sciences at Saint Joseph University, in Beirut. The symposium which was organized by the university “on the Theological Renewal in the Thought of Metropolitan George Khodr” on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of his birth, was attended by professors from diverse backgrounds. We were told that the symposium proceedings would be published. If this exempts me today from mentioning the proceedings, it does not exempt me from publicly expressing my joy that a prestigious Catholic university in Lebanon has chosen to stand before an Orthodox bishop, both as a person and as an intellect! On my life, this is a big deal in a time when the world is becoming increasingly closed up here and fragmented there, that is, it is insisting on making itself small, very small, both here and there. When you talk about Metropolitan George Khodr, when you go to him, you are going to He Who has granted him to shower us with His bounty, to the God Who never tires of reminding the world that it is all so very precious to Him. Yesterday, the Jesuit University declared that Metropolitan George Khodr belongs to us all.
