I passed by him. I greeted him. He responded with the same greeting, without allowing our eyes to meet. He was sweeping in front of a building in which it seemed to me that he was serving. There was another person behind me walking like me. I noticed him from his voice singing praises of the shoes of the young man I had greeted. The young man responded to the compliment with another. He said: “had I had another, I would not have withheld it from you”! This poverty exists not only in our societies (from their dialects, the two men sounded that they are from two Arab countries), but in the whole world as well. There are people in the world who, like the crucified Jesus, are stripped of everything. I recalled the Baptist’s word: “He who has two tunics, let him give to him who has none” (Luke 3:11). There is no human being more beautiful than he who makes you see the words of the prophets walk with you!
