Who Will Give Us?

Yesterday I was standing with a friend of mine in front of a school in Beirut. We saw a hand extend from one of the school windows and throw out an empty bag of some kind of food. I cannot tell if the hand was that of a child or a boy, male or female. The sight struck me. From the school!, from the place where we are supposed to be brought up on citizenship, civility, and respect for the environment…, garbage is being thrown out! I said: He is a child or a boy. I did not mean to lessen the tragedy, but rather to elevate our responsibility as adults, parents and teachers... I am not saying that the little one does not make mistakes. I am not saying that we, the adults, are all disciplined in everything. One of our major scourges in Lebanon is that we, both young and old, become different people outside our homes! Among the things that dazzled the world in the "World Cup Qatar" to this day, are the Saudi team's victory over the Argentinian’s, and the cleanliness of the Japanese... Who will give us?
