When we read, we must bend down a little, to pick up the words, or the words pick us up. Notice! When we hold a book or a newspaper..., the words are generally a little downward, and our faces are directed towards them. This does not mean that words are inferior to us, but rather that they call us to go down to them a little, that is, they call us to some embrace, some love, some humility. This is what poetry and rain do... they bend our faces to our hearts. If we turn up our noses before the words, we cannot read as we should, or benefit as we should. Also, this is the case for those who write. A good reading is always the meeting of two people whom the Word has bent with love and humility!
