Wednesday Evening

Ever since Father George Massouh departed to God’s mercy five years ago, I pledged to spend an hour or two a week at his home, with his wife and three daughters. I had always had my visits to this fraternal house, and they continued with a rhythm that found its way to becoming constant every Wednesday evening. These visits have gifted me to magnify the joy in the memory of Father George and his “succession” in whom it was instilled that they be spent in works of love, friendship and service. The program of the visit is well-known: conversations about them, about study, work, the Church, the Orthodox Youth Movement..., and about me..., and a cup of decaffeinated coffee. Excluding the days of sickness, I do not remember ever having broken my promise. I did not conceal the upsurges of tears. These contain a lot of hope that “Christ is risen!”. Father George has bequeathed in his household that all of life is that Christ is risen!
