Upper Canada Village

Yesterday I mentioned that, on our way to Ottawa, Ontario, we visited the “Upper Canada Village”. The village, which was built to take you back, scenically, to the nineteenth century, is open to visitors who are awaited by employees, young men and women in an old rustic uniform, who never tire of smiling and serving. You are an honored guest. Do not forget that you are in a village. Everyone here is at your service. Just ask. You can be taken by a horse-drawn carriage on a tour of the ancient village roads, or by boat on the lake... Then in all the houses, someone who knows the place and its history in detail is waiting for you. Those who built the village wanted to imprint in the place a part of the history of the region: houses; a church; a parsonage; a pharmacy; a store; a printing press; a school; a telegraph center… In a world that heads excessively for the city, the Upper Canada Village (or the Upper Canada Village Museum) stands in the middle of the road, luring people to acknowledge that whoever preserves his history is deserving of his present and future. Life is faithfulness.
