I mention, with sadness, that we have not succeeded, in this great East, in completing any serious contribution, that was started among us by great Elders, for the unity of Christians. I am not only talking about unity between East and West, but also about healing the rift that occurred in our own home, first in the middle of the fifth century, and then at the beginning of the eighteenth century. What prevails today is a discourse that is mostly devoid of eloquence, some of which is based on political corridors with well-known goals, and some of which is based on pompous emotions and social flatteries... Despite the number of years that have passed since their division, can Christians, in this East, surrender themselves entirely, once again, to the hand of the Holy Spirit for the sake of their unity and the Christians’ unity in the world? Awaiting a satisfactory answer, there remains for us all now to denounce every double-talk that promotes division, and commit ourselves to two things that enrich us today and every day, namely, to love and pray, to love more and to pray a lot.
