To the Feast

I love, in this “little fast”, the Nativity fast, that it is great in its depicting the requisites of this forty-day period of the liturgical year, that is, in its revealing publicly the insistence of the Church that we implant, “in our flesh and blood”, to be in need of the coming Jesus. Take heed of this salvific goal. When we limit ourselves to the forms of the practices, we are marginalizing their meaning, that is, the essence that they bring to us or to which they bring us. Today, I encourage you, once again, to adhere to this “Great Fast” which keeps our eyes fixed on “the manger of Bethlehem”, on “the newborn Child”, on the Living God Who, in the fullness of time, has decided to reveal to the world that He is the God of perfect tenderness. In these forty days, we will be walking towards this one goal which is capable of turning our days into gems. Arise, let us go to the Feast!
