To Keep the Commandments

If we review the Ten Commandments, especially those related to the neighbor, we notice that, in them, God calls us to renounce vice; namely: lying, adultery, killing, stealing… This is what prevails on earth. However, by exposing these commandments, God is not seeking to break us by recalling our weighty sins, but rather He is encouraging us to choose virtue. It is helpful to find vice repugnant, to flee from it, however the perfect choice of obedience, which God expects from us, is to seek virtue. This, in appearance and in content, reveals that God is more powerful than this world. God knows His creatures. He trusts us more than we trust ourselves. Not only does he want us to be better, but to ever be His own. This is the expanse of freedom that leads us to conquer death. Not only is the fear of death what moves us to sin, but also death is the wages of sin. To keep the commandments, this is our path to the true life.
