A few days before the feast captivates us, the Church exhorts us to grow in seeking righteousness. You have noticed, on Sunday, the words of the Apostle, “worked righteousness” (Hebrews 11:33). He was telling his readers about believers whom they knew in the books. As always, the Word here is beneficial for emulation, that is, today, it is a call for us to follow in the steps of the Saints in their work. This does not mean that the Church believes that there is perfect righteousness before Jesus. “All things were made through Him”. However, She provides us with awareness that it is impossible to reach Bethlehem without His gifts. Is there one specific righteousness She expects us to work on our way to the feast? Anything that reveals that God, Who is the goal of our life, is also our companion to it. I would not be deviating from what I am saying if I spoke to you today about two particular matters: namely, about the love of the poor and about forgiveness to those who have sinned against us. In this love and forgiveness, heaven and earth came together in Bethlehem on the day Jesus was born, and they always do!
