The Wonders of Grace

Saint Seraphim of Sarov (+1833) was asked: “why do we no longer see nowadays the wonders of Grace which used to take place a lot in the past?”. He answered: “There is only one thing lacking today: a serious commitment (literally: a firm resolve)”. Did Saint Seraphim mean that, if we keep the requirements of ecclesial commitment, that is, if we pray, fast and obey the righteousness of the Word…, we would do wonders? The wonder is not a human action. This answer calls us to one thing also: to allow God to act in us. Our whole life in Christ, in its every detail, is a decision to be entirely God’s, that He may see us a proper abode for His Glory; that is, that He may be the Wonder in us. Before they are events, wonders are people who pine for the love of a God Who loves them. This is an answer which deserves that we reiterate it to ourselves every day.
