The Sunday of the Last Judgment

Tomorrow, in our Church, we enter into a partial fast, taking meat off our tables. This will be set off by this Sunday, which is the purpose, which we call the Sunday of the Last Judgment. In the Gospel we have read today, Jesus reveals to us that He will judge us according to our love for His little brethren (Matthew 25:31-46). What an astounding revelation! The Judge is promulgating His last decision in history! In fact, this means that Jesus does not wish to banish us from Himself. In one word, He is showing us what pleases Him. He says: “Love the poor as if they were Me”. This is the Word of life, a word for scrutiny, for each one of us to reexamine himself today and every day. At any time, it is not of God for a person to spend his life being content with himself. “Make friends for yourselves by unrighteous wealth”. I am not blocking my path or anyone else’s. The Word is ever so effective. It is still drawing for us the way of our salvation. There remains for me to pray for the Christian brethren, who will set out on their fast tomorrow, for God to accompany them on this one path, for their sake as well as for ours.
