I have mentioned to you that, after Pentecost, the Church entrusts us to the care of the Holy Spirit. Without the Spirit, we have no walk with God. What matters to me in these lines is for us to abide by the Words of Jesus that are read to us by the Church on these Sundays that follow Pentecost. Precise, the Words aim at two things, at destroying the shortcomings that show us as being far away in the homeland of kinship, and at forming our New Man. “He who loves anyone more than Me is not worthy of Me”. “Do not worship two Masters”. “Do not be anxious about food or drink or clothing…”. Notice! These are some of the Words that reveal us as we really are. They reveal our remoteness as well as our limping in love. We are here, that is, with God, and, at the same time, we are not here. How does our humanity regain its health? How do we set out to pleasing our God? Our answer is that the Holy Spirit is with us. This is our call every day to ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen us in obedience, to free us from the slavery of remoteness, and to confirm in us that we are children of God. This is our formation in God.
