The raising of Lazarus is a disclosure of the journey of triumph, which Jesus had achieved by His Death and Resurrection. This is manifested in the feast prayers as they state that Christ, “by raising Lazarus from the dead, did confirm the universal Resurrection”. This means that, when Jesus stood before Lazarus’ tomb and called him: “Lazarus, come forth”, He foretold that, on a day He had designated, He will call all people, whoever they are, be they with Him or against Him. The universal Resurrection is not just the resurrection of people who had loved Jesus in this life. Universal, that is, it reveals that this “Galilean Man” is capable, with His voice, to shake the tombs, He is capable, with a Word, to get all the dead out of their resting places. By bringing Lazarus to life, Jesus had presented a gift. This is a gift for him, for him and for his two sisters, for Bethany and for us all! This is the friend's gift for joy, for the completion of the journey, and for waiting, awaiting “the day“!
