The Pursuit of the Humble

Those who are interested in the events of our Church know that, before the Antiochian Synod elected on Saturday, February 23rd, Metropolitan Saba Esper over the Archdiocese of New York and all North America, among the three names proposed by their conference was the name of Bishop Nicholas Ozone. What is striking about this nomination is that, from the heart of the world, which is mostly founded on the tyranny of power and money… the love of the humble shone through. You recall his words on the day he was ordained a bishop: “If the amount of grace equaled the amount of merit, I would not be a priest”. The Church is truly a lifeboat in the turbulent sea of this world. In the likeness of his Patron Saint, Bishop Nicholas knows that the strength of ministry lies in this hiddenness, which cares for nothing other than for the Gospel to keep walking on two feet, for the glory of God. Decades ago, a great teacher of the Word in our Church in America wrote: "The Church is icons and saints." This is the pursuit of the humble.
