Who will be welcoming Pope Francis tomorrow in “the land of Abraham”? The torn apart, plundered, red Iraq…, the door of which most Christians have slammed behind them, what will this visit say to it, and to them? The optimistic statistics estimate the number of the remaining Christians, today in Iraq, at around two hundred thousand people. Most Iraqis, who have lately resided in Lebanon, have considered it a foothold towards immigrating further abroad. Am I stripping the Pope’s visit off of its pastoral purpose? Christianity is not a mere number. Nevertheless, the visit, the way it looks, is a visit of peace that concerns all the Iraqis, at home and abroad, and even concerns this East and the whole world as well. The peace is assumed by its people. Our eyes are toward His Holiness in this eloquent attempt to show our vacated countries open to hospitality, brotherly love and the better tomorrow!
