The Other as Being Different

A close friend asked me: "why are there people in the world who refuse that we differ from them in anything?". This is based on Adam's sin. What does it mean that Adam, our forefather, wanted to be like God, apart from God? It means a lot of things, including that he was unable to accept that God loves him in his being different. I did not ask my friend about the reason for her question. The world is really strange! In every Church, and even in every parish, and every street and alley, there are people who want people to be identical to them, both in thought and in conduct. I am not saying that those who deny all difference do not notice that no human being is completely identical to anyone else in the universe. So why do they not acknowledge the uniqueness of others? I have spoken to you about Adam's sin. It is useful here to mention Cain's sin as well. This is the feature of the underdeveloped peoples to eliminate the other who is different.
