Tomorrow, in our Church, begins another forty-day fast that is named after the feast of Nativity. If compared to Great Lent, this fast will be considered lightened in form, that is, in spite of our abstinence, in it, from meat and its by-products, we are allowed to eat fish, except on Wednesdays and Fridays. Are you surprised that I am inclined sometimes to talk about form? This is Christianity in its requisites, a form that holds the essence. Are you saying that most people in our country nowadays have been eternally fasting, so why is this urging to fast? The issue in Christianity is that a person, in his commitment to the requisites of his Church, is expressing that he is a member of it. This is an expression that does not only concern the mighty on earth, but all of us. There is no loftier expression, which uplifts our humanity, that matches this expression or surpasses it. Remember, finally, that graces bear fruit in practice. This fast is our path to the coming God. Blessed fast.
