Today I would like to blame my generation for what we have done to some of our youth by instilling in them the sins of the war that was mistakenly called the “Two Year-War”! When I meet a young man who adopts the hatred of adults who had participated in the war, I feel ashamed of everything. No madness is greater than bequeathing to a child of yours something that you know you should have repented of. I am writing with sorrow. Yesterday, I met a young man about the same age as my youngest son. No one escaped his insults in this nearby world that lives in our vicinity! He said: “in the past, our neighbors had not swallowed us up. However, they are still throwing their problems in our laps”! He closed his ears to my response. Some people in Lebanon still insist that their war remains ablaze. How can we keep a grudge that lasts a lifetime? How did we not throw behind us what cost us a homeland? I know that wars can be bequeathed. But I also know that we are able to criticize the mistakes of the past as well as the present. Lebanon is more beautiful than all of its wars and politics... The time of war will not come to an end before we learn to criticize ourselves!
