The Ink of Renewal

Committed writing always requires some of the serenity of hermitages. I dare say that it is some kind of asceticism! We can scent its perfume in the words of the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa (+1935): “I have no ambitions nor desires. To be a poet is not my ambition, it is simply my way of being alone”. I am speaking openly to you about what is known. I do not think that anyone, who has embraced committed writing in any of its forms, can offer something new if he does not see that this solitude is one of the fruits of a close knowledge of the world, of its righteousness and its madness. Committed writing is based on two things, shunning a known madness, and then calling for a better world. This world needs nothing as much as it needs people who have experienced this solitude. From here, from this yearning for the common good, the ink of renewal is drawn.
