Yesterday, after the liturgy of the feast of the Dormition of our Lady the Theotokos, I accompanied my friend Father Nehme Saliba to visit Metropolitan George Khodr. When we arrived, we saw him sitting in the hall of his home, that is ever open to the light and always welcoming. The years, eloquent in their ability to rob us of our things, could not rob this old Metropolitan of his enduring childhood. Although close to a hundred years old, he still resides between silence and words. We asked him about many things. His brevity in answering did not conceal what confident eloquence he has. His Deacon told him about Metropolitan Kallistos Ware, who, some say has fallen asleep in the Lord, and some say that he is alive and is in need for the brethren’s prayers. We asked about him. He said with the same confidence: “he is an Orthodox, in whom is no deceit!”. It is a visitation in which we broke our fear for him from the injustice of the pandemic. I am writing about it because I am convinced that if you share joy with friends, God will give you to hope for His goodness more and more.
