The Children’s Joy

I had told you about my weakness in front of happy faces. I will remind you. I do not think that there is, in the whole world, more beautiful than a laughing child. Yesterday, I saw, on the road, a lad caught up in a fit of laughter! I tried to stay put. I wanted to get more of what I am seeing. I thought first of heaven, which has its own preoccupations with joy (Luke 15:10). Did children learn laughter from angels? This is my conviction! I did not remain the same. The world is a companion! My thought took me to the children whose joys had been snatched away, the children who are exhausted in more ways than one, whose tenderness is abused both in peace and in war. Do the adults know what their losses are when they are distracted from serving the children's joy? Pardon me, Mr. Busy. If you please, where can I see you? I have a rose for you which I took from the mouth of a laughing child!
