The Bishops’ Invention

Of the words that buzz with recognition of the truth is the saying of Peter Brown, the historian: “the bishops are the ones who have invented the poor”. This is a testimony to the Spirit of God Who gave people on earth to spread out in it that people are brethren. Brown did not say that the bishops have invented the social service for those who are with them, there is no favoritism in love, but rather, they have invented the poor, that is, they have spread the action of the word that does not discriminate between one face and another; they have also screamed on earth against racism that weakens love and against every injustice any poor person gets exposed to by being left in the clutches of death by hunger or by cold… In this saying, Brown specifies the leaders of the Christian communities. However, any rational person can know that he had not meant them alone. This is always the ministry of the Church all of whose members know that the Holy Spirit rests only in those who respond to Him in the work of love. Did Brown want only to mention the truth or to remind of it as well? The good ministry is the one that always adheres to the truth.
