Self-Discovery

Reverend Aiden Wilson Tozer (about whom I wrote to you at the beginning of the year) has written these seven rules for self-discovery: “1. What we want most; 2. What we think about most; 3. How we use our money; 4. What we do with our leisure time; 5. The company we enjoy; 6. Whom and what we admire; 7. What we laugh at”. These are straightforward, clear rules. One thing Tozer wants from them: that, without God, we cannot discover our own self, know it and know its abilities. Without Him, we would be someone else, or rather, something else! In one word, the summary of these rules is that no commitment to God is complete if it is partial or temporary, that is, if God is not always all-in-all, if He is not our longing, our preoccupation, our wealth, our companion at night and day, our solace, our amazement, and our joy. Are you saying that we are not angels and saints? This is the battle of discovery, the discovery of life with God, that it is for us all!
