A few days ago, a friend of mine handed me footage showing Israel’s destruction of fishermen’s boats on the shore of the Rafah sea. I would not be mitigating the injustice of what Israel is doing in Gaza today if I said: I was not surprised by what it did. I am not limiting myself to its hatred, which is unlike any other. The young as well as the old are aware of its hatred for the continuation of life in a country which it can only visualize as being lifeless. Israel does not act on the spur of the moment. This is its legacy! Its crisis is but one. I have told you previously about the threat, other than which it does not see. Anything that reminds it of Jesus of Nazareth, Whose companions left their boats on the sea to follow Him, threatens its very existence. It lives in anxiety because of Him. It fears for itself because of Him (John 11:50). This is its major crisis; this is the root of every threat; everything that brings Him to mind: the fishermen, the boats, the fish whose sketch is one of His followers’ emblems, and the sea which Jesus has revealed as a throne for teaching the Word and for carrying It to the ends of the earth… Fishermen’s boats? This is the height of vileness!
