Potential Joys

I have a friend whose doctor has forbidden from smoking. The COVID-19 pandemic has made us forget that there are other malignant illnesses! My friend failed to follow his doctor's words. His wife urged me talk to him. I know the pleasure he thinks smoking can make him feel. I talked to him with his own parlance. I asked him: “do you not think that there are still pleasures you have not experienced yet?”. He looked askance at me in a way he seemed to be accusing me of living on another planet. I got over his look by telling him: “have you married any of your children? Have you experienced the joy of the household out of which comes another? Give yourself this chance”! He refused to listen to me. He changed the subject. By writing these lines, I do not intend to publicly disclose my grief, but to beg, especially those of you who smoke, to accept the life which God wants us to live entirely! Life is a grace and a volition.
