Persisting Objections

I am following the feedback that is reaching us regarding the rejection of the document issued by the Roman Catholic Church, in which it is allowing the blessing of same-sex couples, as well as responses to this rejection. The explanatory document, in which Rome reaffirmed its stance on this blessing, was pointed out to me by my friend, Brother George Ghandour. However, the objections persist. I am speaking here of Churches in Africa and Eastern Europe that have not been hindered by their unity with Rome from openly rejecting the document... What struck me was the position of His Holiness the Pope in his response to the dissenting voices in his Church. He said: “No one is scandalized if I give a blessing to an entrepreneur who perhaps exploits people, whereas they are scandalized if I give it to a homosexual. This is hypocrisy”. I do not believe that any rational person can accuse Pope Francis or the opponents of the document of hypocrisy. The whole story is that there is a vast difference between someone, whose Church awaits his repentance, asking for a priest’s blessing, and his Church officially stating that she blesses him as he is. Love does not fawn over the world.
