The world does not have to accept that Man is called to be perfect (Matthew 5:48). However, we, as believers, have no meaning if we are not aware of this call, in thought and in deed. Does perfection consist in getting to God with acts of righteousness in our quiver that exceed evil acts in number? Jesus had forgiven the thief who was crucified at His right side in a moment that He Himself had overshadowed with His eternal grace. This is a matter that concerns God and which He gave to His Only Son. People are bound by the Word, Which alone is the foundation of our freedom. The Word does not accept that we impose on it an utterance which is alien to its meaning. We can all know that there were great Fathers who believed that God is, only, an ocean of mercy. However, we do not know, from the legacy they have left, that they were inclined to consider that God turns a blind eye to the evil committed by people, on purpose or inadvertently. The Church remains the homeland of the quest for perfection.
