Our Language

The parents of students in one of the universities, in an English-speaking country, raised an objection to its administration that their children are weak in their own language. The principal's answer was shocking. He said, "you are the reason. Had your children been interested in their language, we would not have had to bring teachers for them from abroad"! Let us read this incident locally. I do not know who in our country is interested in our Arabic language. It seems that, nowadays, most of those who engage in modern standard Arabic, in every manner, share an offensive flimsiness! Notice! Of those who have been away from school for a year or two, who do you think is capable of analyzing the syntax of a verbal sentence? Many people have overlooked that language is a means of communication and expansion! Do you have room for a couple of words? Do not break up with the study of language. This is not only a severance of our fathers and forefathers’ heritage, but also a severance of its continuation in us. I am handing these lines over to you, on the “International Day of the Arabic Language”, hoping that we all remember, every day, that Man is his language.
