Maggy Mahmoud

Yesterday, Maggy Mahmoud rushed to leave her public school in Tripoli. She did not leave it, as usual, to her parents’ home, rather, she was betrayed by the neglect of a country that grew old before maturing! Neglect has snatched a sixteen-year-old girl from the bosom of youth and from the eyes of her parents and those who love her, and snatched from her her promises and her yearning for the coming tomorrow! How does the roof of a school collapse on its students? In a collapsed country, this is a form of helplessness. How bizarre is this aging country that looks young only when it walks in our funerals! What do we tell Maggy? Do we say: sorry? Forgive us? Although all the apologies of the universe are not enough in the face of the crimes we commit against ourselves and our children in a country where we have only learned to scream in the aftermath of the catastrophe, we have to tell Maggy to forgive us, and even to ask her Lord, with Whom she is now, to have mercy on her parents and those who love her, as well as on those who have been injured with her, and on us all in Lebanon. Maggy has left for the heaven of knowledge that the salvation of Lebanon is impossible without a miracle!
