The Feast of Transfiguration is these few words said by those who have written down the event: “when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only” (see for example: Matthew 17:8). I am not attenuating the glow of the event: the light, Moses and Elijah, what God the Father had uttered with His own voice…, I am rather going, with you, to its goal. Transfiguration is also that we seek Jesus alone. It is this saving assertion that Jesus is present in our bareness in order to carry us into His light. The mountain, the mountain of transfiguration, is incomprehensible without this descent into people's sufferings. The words of the prophets, Moses and Elijah, with Him on the mountain, about His sufferings, were an indication that the transfiguration is an extension to the cross on which Jesus will lift up the pain of the entire history, past, present and future. This is the transfiguration of Jesus and our own transfiguration with Him. Jesus transfigured in revealing His love for us, His love that is as white as snow, in order to say that He always transfigures in those who strive to follow in His footsteps alone. The Father said to the disciples about Jesus: "Hear Him". This is always the secret of transfiguration.
