This is Lebanon’s feast day. I will leave the analysis of history. Today, what I hope for is that the Lebanese become independent in their hearts from every sick passion rooted in us. Does it benefit us to seek achievements to extol if we insist on rivalry in our common home? Hatred achieves no good. This is the pastime of idle people to be angry at one another while people are sick of waiting for relief or of longing for those who have slammed the doors of their country behind them. When are we, in Lebanon, going to understand that the luxury of fooling around will not be of any benefit to us? This is a country of sacrifices! Squandering away the achievements realized by those who have given us precedence over themselves, will bequeath us nothing other than the curses of history. Listen to the feast telling us all, old and young, that the homelands are truly protected only by those who keep themselves of all vain glory for the sake of uplifting the poor. This is my hope for you on the feast day.
