In the story of the boy suffering from epilepsy (Mark 9:17-31), it always strikes me that Jesus, the Omniscient, asked his father to tell him about the history of his son's illness. “How long has this been happening to him?”. Why this question? We have all experienced that if someone in the house gets sick, the whole house gets sick. Jesus did not intend, with this question, to know something He did not know, God forbid!, but rather to empathize with the sick boy’s father. He asked it for the sake of the father, in order to make him feel that He was by his side, in order to heal him as well. Did we notice? Jesus loves to talk to us about ourselves, about our children, about their problems... We will not find anyone like Him who is able to calm our seas, and extinguish the fires that burn in us. If we can comprehend that Jesus is always with us, we will put an end, from our history, to the time of anxiety and fear of the unknown to come, the time of turmoil and sadness. Jesus is with us, this is always God's victory in the universe!
