God is One

The first title, which occurred to me before I wrote these lines, was: "the Unity of Christians". My intention was not to write about the desired unity, but about what can make us deserve it, that is, about the openness we need to have at a time when many do not see any good in any action that seeks our good as well as our closeness! For those who do not know, there is no great theologian in this world, be he Western or Eastern, who looks down upon God’s manifestations in the different other. The true theologian is he whose garden, wherefrom he gathers his thoughts, is an overlooking house. If a thought from outside the garden woos him, he accepts it as if it were from his garden. God is One. I would like to tell you that, a few days ago, I read a sermon by a great Protestant pastor who cited an Orthodox bishop from his country. Whoever we are, if we do not learn to see God in all others, we do not deserve anything. Unity is entitlement! Unity has to be deserved!
