Evidence of Strength

Of the words that capture my heart, is the word of Joel the prophet: “Let the weak say: I am strong” (3:10). I know the context in which the verse was said. I would not be ignoring its contents if I said: “I have spent my whole life regarding as hideous he who takes advantage of the weak”. Once, in our old neighborhood, a young lad, who had no parents, stood behind my back, seeking my protection. In our neighborhood, the request has its meanings. A young man, who was of my age and folly, was chasing after him wanting to hit him. I told the young man to leave him and walk away. He did not understand. I told him again, firmly: “if you lay a hand on him, you have only yourself to blame”! I am embarrassed to complete telling you what had happened! The words of Jesus have softened me. Nevertheless, I still find hideous those who take advantage of the weak, whatever his gender or age. We are all responsible to provide the weak with the atmosphere that helps him get stronger. This is irrefutable evidence that we are strong.
