In the New Testament, we are drawn to the fact that, the more famous Jesus became throughout the earth, the more He rose to His Cross. I will give you an example. After Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem, Greek people came to His disciples, and asked to see Him (John 12:20-22). This is an announcement about global fame. However, instead of rising to meet His seekers, Jesus rises to talk about the fact that the hour of His glorification, that is, His crucifixion, has come. Was Jesus fleeing from fame? What He did was not flight, but rather a revelation that His death is salvation to the world. After this, Jesus asks His Father to glorify His Name. A voice from heaven answers Him, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.” (verse 28). What God the Father meant here was that glory, which was manifested in what Jesus taught and did, will be fully revealed on the Cross as well. There is no greater fame for Jesus than to complete that He loved us all before the world was (John 17:5)!
