All-Saints Sunday

It is well known that our Church, whose liturgical year begins on September 1, is dominated by Pentecost (the Church labels most of its Sundays and weeks that they fall after Pentecost). This, in and of itself, reveals that, without the Spirit of God, we cannot walk ecclesiastically in the space of worship even one single step. The Spirit is the One Who sheds light upon the meanings of the events that we are celebrating, Who establishes them as a haven of salvation for us, and Who brings out their action in us. On this first Sunday after Pentecost, for example, our Church commemorates all the Saints, who are standing before us or in God’s memory. This, in its position, the Church does not want with it just to establish her belief that it is the Spirit Who brings about holiness in history, but rather also to mark the end of the road right from the beginning: holiness is the goal of us all, it is the goal of this journey led by the Spirit. It is God’s call for us to walk in the Spirit day by day in our belonging to the Church through prayer and work.
