When I write about Lebanon, I have come to expect you to turn a blind eye to my lines. For Lebanon to become a true homeland for us, this, for most of us, is a dream preserved for a tomorrow to come. I have not given up on my optimism. In spite of my admitting repeatedly that I do not like dreams, I am using the term today only to denote that we are a people who have forgotten that the homeland calls for work! Why, whether we have stayed in Lebanon or have left it, we seem as if we are asking for a ready-made country? The greatest achievement that history will record for us is that we are a people who can never get enough of slumber! Is it in our hands, unbeknown to us, the solution of our country’s changeover from a country of rivalry and greed… to a homeland for life? Then, I ask God to give us to sleep through a whole week! I am inclined to think that, if we slept for a week, nothing in our country would remain the same! Everything will be renewed! Am I still insisting on dreaming?
