A Realistic Testimony

The scholar Clement of Alexandria (+215) wrote that he knows Christians who, in order to help the poor, not only did they sell their possessions, but also sold themselves (as slaves). This is a testimony of Christ Who dwells in those who believe in Him, as God and Savior. No one like Him can convince a human being of flesh and blood that he does not belong to himself. This is Him. In his testimony, the Alexandrian scholar does not let go of realism. Testimonials do not consist of exaggerations. He says that he knows Christians. He didn't speak about all Christians, but rather about some whom he knew. In more than one generation, there are people who have joined Christ externally, people who care for nothing in this world other than themselves. How does one sell himself for the freedom of others? This is Him! The endeavor of Christians is one thing, namely to emulate a God Who has condescended to become one of them. May God be glorified in His condescension and in His ascension!
