Watching them aroused my interest. I was walking in our neighborhood. There were a few young volunteers in the “Red Cross” standing in the middle of the road, and one of them, in bashful retreat, was carrying a box, hoping that those who are passing-by in their cars would freely place in it something of their charity. I stood a little to the side of the road in a nearby spot. I wanted to see how the Lebanese nowadays are dealing with this invitation to donate. The first, the second, the third..., the tenth passed by; all of them, without exception, complied with the invitation. They all put a full hand in the box. This is our country. The real Lebanon is a people who is, in love, unlike any other; who is both poor and generous; a people who lives to do good and who loves for the sake of love. Resuming my walk, I repeated: “we do not need to fight over the election of a new president. Any of those who have given others of their charity, or of those who are like them, can restore life to the empty palace”.
